History of Peter Freedman

Sensei Peter Freedman has been a lifelong native of the city of Boston.  He resided in the South End and grew up facing difficulties that are not uncommon to many inner-city kids.  He has committed his life to the study of martial arts.  His father was a professional boxer.  Thus from an early age, Sensei Freedman was heavily influenced by his father's concepts of boxing in the ring as well as by his own experience in the streets.

During the course of his life he constantly searched for more information on various systems of martial arts.  Included in his studies were Boxing, Wrestling, Judo, Aikido, Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Savate, Muay Thai, Fu Jow Pai/ Kung Fu, Tai Chi, as well as his main discipline of Ketsugo Jujutsu.

Until recently Sensei Freedman continued to expand his knowledge of the martial arts through Guro Grande George Brewster who taught Arnis.   Mr. Brewster, a veteran of D-Day and the Battle of the Bulge, passed on at 81 years of age, but his legend continues.

Currently, the combative system of Arnis Lanada that was perfected by Mr. Brewster has been entrusted to Sensei Freedman.   Guro Grande George H. Brewster, the founder of the Brewster Arnis Club, appointed Freedman as the Grandmaster of the Boston Arnis Club. To this day Freedman teaches each and every Arnis and Jujutsu class in Weare, NH.

As the former owner of the renowned all-natural

Pete's Power Gym, which he ran for fifteen years, Sensei Freedman taught nutrition, anatomy, body building, power lifting, and body toning.  Since he was 15 years old Sensei Freedman began pulling troubled teens off the streets of Boston and away from gangs.  He initally trained the youth in his own basement gym as he taught them how to strengthen their minds and spirits and to build up their bodies.  Sensei Freedman went on to train over 35 national bodybuilding champions.   He served as an inspirational role model and mentor for over 6,000 underprivileged urban youths who were at one time consumed by lives ridden with violence, drug abuse, and peer pressure.

Sensei Freedman has been written up by numerous local newspapers and has been featured in martial art magazines such as Secrets of the Masters, Inside Karate, Secret Fighting Techniques, Inside Tae Kwon Do, Masters & Styles, Inside Martial Arts, and MA Training.  In 1989 the Mayor of Boston formally recognized Sensei Freedman's heroic efforts and his outstanding contributions to the residents of Boston.  Before a crowd of hundreds of people and a number of celebrity figures such as wrestlers, Big John Studd and Killer Kowalski, and actor, Anthony Michael Hall, the Mayor handed Sensei Freedman a lifetime achievement award.

From the physically challenged to law enforcement to sky marshalls to the Department Of Defense to Special Forces to members of the CIA, Sensei Freedman has taught his life-changing and lifesaving self-defense system to a diverse group of people.
